More new mums opting for cosmetic enhancement
30 Apr 2008

More and more new mums are turning to post-pregnancy surgery in a bid to achieve the celebrity-inspired 'yummy mummy' image, a leading cosmetic clinic has reported.
According to the Harley Medical Group, there has been a 20 per cent increase in women having liposuction, tummy tucks and breast uplifts in the past 12 months.
Liz Dale, a spokesperson for the clinic, explained: "After pregnancy or substantial weight loss, many people find their abdominal muscles are weak and the skin in that area has become looser.
"Despite exercise and diet, this may be difficult to shift and can cause self-consciousness and anxiety."
Liposuction is a surgical treatment designed to trim the abdomen, hips, buttocks, as well as inner and outer thighs by removing excess fatty tissue to reshape the body.
Experts in the field would only consider performing cosmetic procedures on healthy women who are no longer breastfeeding. New mums are advised to wait four to six months after breast feeding has stopped before undergoing breast augmentation.
