Lifestyle factors can 'help manage' depression 24 Apr 2008
Talking therapies, diet, exercise and lifestyle are a range of non-medical interventions that can play a key role in helping people through periods of depression, according to experts. Emer O'Neill, chief executive of Depression Alliance, said: "There are a whole range of other non-medical interventions that are absolutely key to getting people through this difficult time and also to maintain therapy."Depression means that even being able to stick to the regular routine of getting up and going to work everyday can be really difficult." Figures show that people with depression and anxiety account for almost a tenth of the UK population of working age. According to Depression Alliance, 46 per cent of people with depression found that having a job helps in the recovery process. Flexible working conditions such as flexitime can be a real benefit for those suffering from mental health problems, as depression can affect sleep patterns.Discuss this item in our forums
