Feed your skin from within, experts say
15 May 2008
Incorporating a range of skin-boosting nutrients into our diet can help maintain a healthy complexion as well as offering a natural boost against the early signs of ageing, experts advise.
Research has shown that foods rich in antioxidants such as avocados and blueberries are particularly beneficial to the skin, while selenium plays a crucial role in the reversal of sun damage.
Taking an evening primrose oil supplement can help improve skin elasticity, moisture, smoothness, firmness and to ease irritated skin.
Karen Jessett, skin care expert and author of Clear Skin, advised: "Ensure you are getting good quality sleep. This will not only help reduce tired circles around the eyes, but sleep also gives skin the chance to recuperate by ensuring faster cell growth and renewal."
She added that exercise is known to boost circulation, feeding the skin with oxygen and nutrients essential for a healthy looking glow.
