Brits opting for more active lifestyle 21 Apr 2008
With health now at the forefront of most people's minds, more and more Brits are making an active effort to participate in sport on a regular basis, figures show. A recent survey conducted by the Office for National Statistics revealed that one quarter of adults in the UK are currently members of a sports club, with 21 per cent regularly taking part in sport and active recreation. According to the research, regular participation is defined as participating in a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise on at least three occasions a week.In addition, increasing numbers of Brits are opting for sports-related holidays that provide vacation breaks with added health benefits. Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), said: "People are much more aware of health issues and the fact that our sedentary daily lives leave us open to potential heart attack and stroke problems in later life."Discuss this item in our forums
