Brits opting for more active lifestyle

With health now at the forefront of most people's minds, more and more Brits are making an active effort to participate in sport on a regular basis, figures show.

A recent survey conducted by the Office for National Statistics revealed that one quarter of adults in the UK are currently members of a sports club, with 21 per cent regularly taking part in sport and active recreation.

According to the research, regular participation is defined as participating in a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise on at least three occasions a week.

In addition, increasing numbers of Brits are opting for sports-related holidays that provide vacation breaks with added health benefits.

Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), said: "People are much more aware of health issues and the fact that our sedentary daily lives leave us open to potential heart attack and stroke problems in later life."
