Benefits of moderate exercise highlighted

Taking regular moderate exercise can help boost energy levels as well as contribute to long-term health, it has been suggested.

According to experts at the Mayo Clinic in the US, people who take 30 minutes of moderately strenuous exercise each day can reap a huge range of benefits, including lowering their blood pressure and strengthening their bones.

It can also have a powerful impact on our emotions, with the Clinic explaining: "Exercise may help reduce stress, improve mild-to-moderate depression and anxiety, improve sleep and boost moods."

For those who are feeling tired the thought of getting active may not be appealing, but experts point out that being sedentary can actually contribute to feelings of exhaustion.

The Clinic recommends brisk walking as a good way to get moving as it is easy to fit into the day and requires no special equipment.

It is also a good way to get into living a healthier lifestyle, with some fitness experts recommending that those planning to become more active in 2008 should ease themselves into a new regime by taking regular walks before attempting more vigorous forms of exercise.
